Gastric banding is an effective slimming method used to encourage improved eating habits and sustain weight loss. This is achieved by reducing your appetite and limiting your food intake. The band is placed around the upper part of your stomach. The placement of the band creates a small pouch at the top of the stomach which holds approximately 50 ml. What To Expect After Gastric Banding Surgery
The length of stay at the clinic is usually 2 days. You will be recovering at our private apartment for the next 4-5 days before flying back. Generally, the client has to reduce the food intake; otherwise it is possible to experience burping and pain. This is caused by digestion of non-acidic food swallowed from the upper pouch. The average gastric banding client loses 500 grams to 1 kilogram per week at the beginning, but heavier clients often lose more. During the first year, clients lose between 50 to a 100 pounds if combined with a well prepared diet and sufficient physical activity on a daily basis.
The Risks of Gastric Banding
The risks of gastric banding are minimal; however potential complications might include Ulceration, Gastritis (irritated stomach issue) or slippage (unusual occurrence where the lower part of the stomach may prolapse over the band and cause an obstruction).
The obstruction is usually caused when the client eats too heavily after the surgery is performed (or the band has just been adjusted). It is very important that you follow the surgeon's instructions and eat portions as prescribed or suggested by your surgeon. It may be difficult for you too adjust to the smaller portions, but the results are well worth it!

- The amount of weight you lose depends both on the band and your commitment to alter your lifestyle and eating habits.

- This procedure is not recommended if you are considering falling pregnant. If pregnancy occurs while you have the band inserted, you will need to have it adjusted to a level excepting more volume, but you can keep it.
