I read your message and calculated your current Body Mass Index which indicates that you BMI is below 30 (normal weight varies between 18.5 and 24.9). However, your category is overweight, you are not obese and therefore you cannot undergo gastric banding as you would have to have BMI higher than 35.
My proposal is to undergo intragastric balloon treatment and probably combine this weight-reduction treatment with sibutramine (usually known as Meridia tablets). The price for intragastric balloon is 2 500 GBP, all inclusive. Meridia tablets cost 20 pounds/month and they should be used for 3 months only. Hi, I am seriously considering the gastric balloon programme but a few people have warned me that many things can go wrong. I am only 20 years of age but I have struggled with my weight since I was about 7 and I have tried various ways to loose weight. I cannot seem to train my brain to eat smaller portions and this seems like my only other option, I have asthema from being over weight and I have shorten breath walking short distances. I want to feel healthier.
What are the bad side effects of this treatment?
I have a BMI of 29.6 so would I qualify for the balloon programme or would i need to shift a few more pounds?
I would love to have the confidence my friends do and not feel so depressed whenever I buy clothes. Idealy i would like to loose 3 stones or even a little more. Please advise me if you believe this programme would suit me. Thank You. |

What are the side effects after the intragastric balloon is fitted?
Every medical procedure has its risks. The most common side effect of intragastric balloon is sickness during the first four days after the insertion of the balloon. Other risks are: ulcer formation, pain, bleeding, and perforation caused by higher production of acid production by the stomach. However, we have had more than 50 clients who underwent this procedure and no one experienced anything like that.
The full list of side effects is written in the procedure ‘BIB Brochure.pdf’ I attached to this email. Please read it carefully and let me know if there is anything you do not understand. Thank you.
I am approximately 14 stones and my Ideal weight (as reconmended by a doctor) is 9 1/2 stones. How much weight do you believe i would loose with the balloon programme?
The success of this weight reduction treatment depends on your willingness to follow a strict diet as well. Our doctor will give you a nutrition guidance. He can also give you some weight reduction tablets. Although I cannot guarantee that you will actually lose 4 ½ stones, it is very highly possible that you will lose at least 2 ½ stones with this treatment.
If I was to get a breast uplift, would I require implants?
Breast uplift usually does not require implants in case you want to have your breasts slightly smaller. However, if you want them to look bigger, implants might be necessary. If you send us some photos of your breasts, I will consult them with our surgeon and give you his proposal, free of charge.
And if so, would these need to be replaced after a certain number of years?
Our implants have a lifetime guarantee, however, the recommended period of time is 10 years. On the other hand, I must point out that we have had some clients who had breast implants for more than 20 years. The main disadvantage of having the implants for a longer time is that your breasts might lose their shape, so they can drop again.
How many days would be be staying in prague if i was to have just the intragastric balloon programme?
Approximately two days, but you can stay in Prague for up to four days. After six months, you will have to come to Prague again because the balloon will be removed.

No, your BMI is fine. However, you have to make sure you will be able to follow the diet, otherwise any weight reduction treatment will not be effective.

Thank you for your email and interest. Our care is based on identifying the cause of obesity at the beginning of the treatment. It means that the client fills our questionnaire, and some laboratory tests are done covering common causes of obesity: hypothytroid, non-insulin dependend diabetes, insulin resistance, suprarenal hyperfunction, and overeating. If any pathology is found, we will recommend /start the best treatment.
After BIB insertion, I am in touch with our clients and help them if some diet problem occurs. After BIB removal (6 months), I am in touch for another 6 months to help our clients to prevent jo-jo effect.

Dear Freda, I understand that it must be frustrating to try so many techniques to lose weight and none of them worked. Usually, apart from enough exercise, it is necessary to lower the amount of food intake. That is why we offer the Intragastric Balloon or Gastric Band. As your BMI is 38, you seem to be more suitable for the latter procedure. The cost for the band is 4000 all inclusive. The all inclusive package involves all services needed: the air-tickets to Prague and back, a driver waiting for you at the airport to take you to the clinic, accommodation at the clinic and in a four-star hotel, transport from the hotel to the clinic and back so the surgeon can do the routine check-up, and a taxi to the airport. Furthermore, there will be our liason, Liz, who will be in touch with you during your whole stay. In case you would like to take someone with you, it will cost him/her approx. 350 GBP (air-tickets and accomodation). You will be required to spend 6 days in total in Prague, from which two days are spent at the clinic where the surgery is performed (full board) and additional four days in a four-star hotel (bed & breakfast). In addition, the aftercare includes one free adjustment (all inclusive again), that is done usually six weeks after the surgery (it takes only 1 night stay). Although unlikely, if you will need more adjustments (for example because of pregnancy or too much weight loss), we will perform an additional adjustment free of charge, but you will need to pay for the air-tickets yourself (plus 50 GBP for one night stay at the clinic), so it would be 250 in total. Dear Pat, if you go for a gastric band with us, you are provided with one adjustment (usually six weeks after the surgery) free of charge including air tickets and accommodation at the clinic (normally one night stay). Although unlikely, if you will need more adjustments (for example because of pregnancy or too much weight loss), we will perform an additional adjustment free of charge, but you will need to pay for the air-tickets yourself (plus 50 GBP for one night stay at the clinic). On average, only one adjustment is required. Regarding your second question, we do not provide consultations in the UK, only in terms of aftercare when our surgeon may visit you in person at your home, if something goes wrong. We will, however, ask you several questions in form of a medical questionnaire (including your BMI) to find out whether you are eligible for the operation or not. In case of gastric bypass, we do not provide this surgery. We consider it as unhealthy as food is directed away from the stomach which causes malnutrition and the organism suffers. Dear Annette, by signing up a contract with us before the procedure, we agree to carry out check ups for you and pay for all costs directly involved with it (the air tickets, transport within Prague and accomodation). Usually, the adjustments of the made are performed six weeks after the procedure and then after three months.
